Frogner House, Bygdøy Allé 53 – Oslo, Norway

Last week I had the privilege of spending a night at Frogner House Apartments. Located in Bygdøy Allé 53, situated in the same familiar street which offers several designer shops, good restaurants and cosy cafes. If you’re up for a movie and a glass of wine, Gimle cinema is within a short walking distance from your home away from home. The main shopping street, Karl Johans Gate is a 20-minute walk from the apartment.

The reception was not located in the same building so I had to check in and get my keycards in Skovveien 8, which is only 5 minutes away by foot. Note that this applies to everyone who stays in any Frogner House Apartment.

The Frogner House in Bygdøy Allé reopened on April 20. 2015. I was one of the first guests to be staying there, if not the first person to stay in the room the next day of the opening. The 4 story building has 63 stunning and modern apartments with delicate interior. All in all Frogner House offers over 400 apartments in different locations in Oslo.

Upon arrival at Bygdøy Allé 53, I was welcomed with a smell of new furnitures and newly painted walls. I don’t think I have ever stayed in a hotel or apartment where everything is literally brand new.

Since the concept of Frogner House differs from the traditional hotels, the breakfast here is not included. However, Samson Bakery can deliver freshly baked bread rolls, pastry, freshly squeezed juice, fruit and a yoghurt on the door of your own apartment for 140NOK. The property has a laundry room with washer and dryer. There’s also a taxi stand right outside the building, and a bus stop taking you to the city centre just a few meters away.

EXECUTIVE STUDIO
WITH FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHENETTE

I spent a night in a spacious executive studio with a fully equipped mini kitchen with two hotplates, microwave and kitchenware. The kitchenette looks like an ordinary cabinet when closed – a smart solution for utilizing its space.

My room was located in the third floor overlooking the view of its lovely neighborhood. Gladly, I packed light for my staycation and brought only what was necessary. The elevator in the property has not been installed yet. Due to a delay, the installation won’t be completed until 1st of June 2015, which is only a month away.

This is a downside for parents with babies and for wheelchair users. However, there are other Frogner House Apartments to find down town, but if you still prefer to live here, you can always call the reception for assistance.

The room is fully furnished with beautiful custom designed furniture, seating area with sophisticated chairs, a working desk, a fireplace which can not be used – only for display. The room is equipped with a flat-screen Smart TV and free WiFi, it also has a cute balcony where you can stand and have some fresh air and enjoy the view of your surroundings.

The bed was very comfortable and soft, the bedsheets were crispy and knowing that everything around me was brand new made my whole stay extra fun. The bed was decorated with matching throw pillows, a headboard, two nigh tables and two table lamps. The bathroom was simple but yet modern, it was equipped with towels, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and lotion. I had to walk around in my shoes though, cause there were still signs of renovations, there were still some dust on the floor.
