ECO-FRIENDLY BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH A UNIQUE COMBINATION OF LUXURY BALINESE-STYLE DÉCOR AND SAMI-INSPIRED PELTS.

As you may have read in my earlier posts and as you have seen on my Instagram photos, I was staying at the Guldsmeden hotel in Oslo last Friday with Anna, a friend of mine who’s also a halfcast just like myself. Before I go on writing about my experience I would like to say that Guldsmeden did not feel like a three star hotel, but rather much more. The service was excellent and the food was all organic, and some rooms also include iMac computers!

This eco-friendly boutique hotel is located in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood, situated 1o minutes away by foot from Oslo’s main street Karl Johans gate. Aker Brygge is only 5 minutes away with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Upon arrival I was first welcomed by a soothing and relaxing Balinese scent. Followed by a smiling face and a warm greeting by a lovely front desk receptionist, Nella. She did not only help me with checking in, but she also made my stay more memorable and enjoyable. Thank you for being so sweet!

Guldsmeden has 50 rooms with a unique combination of luxury Balinese-style décor and Sami-inspired pelts. The hotels spa is available to guests all day during selected hours. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the entire hotel.

Le Manon, the only restaurant in the house offers completely organic food and the variation and possibilities are endless. The restaurant stays open even after closing time for guests who just wants to sit and enjoy a cup of organic tea in the evening. Le Manon is decorated with cosy Chesterfield couches, pillows, furry organic lambskins and Persian rugs. Since Anna and I had a lot of things to talk about we were awake until three in the morning. We relaxed in our room until midnight and moved to Le Manon to take some pictures and drank way too much tea.

Anna and I spent a night in the bridal suite on the first floor. The spacious and romantic suite was furnished with two sofas and both of them were decorated with throw pillows. There was a working desk in the room too with some organic snacks such as mixed nuts and a bag of chips.

If you ever plan on staying at Guldsmeden make sure you bring a bag of paprika chips with you from the reception, unless there’s one in the room already. Not only is it organic but the taste of the chips are way better than the ones you buy in the stores that are non-organic. You just have to taste them!

I think one of the things in the room that captured my attention the most was the comfortable canopy bed. There’s something traditional about it, I think it’s because of the throw pillows and the Sami-inspired pelts that are decorated on the bed. It’s also exotic, mostly because of the headboard, the night tables and the firefly lamps.

I’m not sure if it’s a king or queen sized bed, to me it doesn’t really matter as long as get to sleep peacefully like a baby.

Another thing was the fancy bath tub right next to the bed. I’m somehow quite surprised about where they had placed it, considering we live in a cold place like Norway. I’ve only seen hotels in exotic countries furnish their rooms the way they did here. I’m impressed Guldsmeden! And the last but not the least thing was the bathroom, because of its Balinese touch – and especially the private sauna.

The bridal suite is equipped with a 27 inch iMac and a flatscreen TV. I have to warn you about something though – if you like sleeping with the windows open you should beware of the annoying seagulls during dawn. They woke me up a few times which resulted in a sleepy me and closed windows.
