Oh boy. Where do I begin?
The last hotel I had the privilege to stay at in Switzerland is located at the Top of the World – St. Moritz. Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains is a five star hotel located in a breathtaking mountain setting at the Engadine valley. I’ve read and heard many things about St. Moritz such as in magazines, news, on social media and from friends. The fuzz about St. Moritz made me curious – curious to a point where I decided to explore it myself and see it with my own eyes.
So I got to escape into a world of luxury for a few days. Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains is easily accessible by road or rail. It takes about 4,5 hours to get there. There are no direct trains from Zürich so you’ll have to change train twice. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from downtown – there you’ll find an excellent selection of luxury shops, restaurants and cafés.
When I arrived at the train station in St. Moritz I was waiting for my private chauffeur, who accidentally picked up the wrong person. Haha. I find the whole situation funny. I was waving my hand hoping the driver would see me – which he didn’t.
Unfortunately, I was having trouble connecting to my 4G so I couldn’t call the hotel. I was doomed I thought for myself. No phone, no GPS, no nothing. Luckily I spotted a guy who was waiting outside for his friend to pick him up. I explained the situation and politely asked if I could borrow his phone.
I got in touch with the hotel and was told to wait a few minutes as the driver was on his way back to pick me up. It only took a few minutes before the driver was there in a black BMW. As we approached our destination I got more and more excited. When we arrived, I quickly got out of the car. Whilst talking to the driver about my belongings and as I turned around to head inside the hotel I spotted Paul. Can you imagine that wonderful feeling of excitement after being united with your friend after so many years.
I checked in, settled in, changed clothes, refreshed myself and went back downstairs to eat late dinner at the Bar and Lobby with Paul. The hotel have four restaurants – one of which is my favorite place to dine; the Les Saisons – an award winning breakfast restaurant in the morning and a steak house in the evening offering the best steaks from the around world. The breakfast selection at Kempinski never seem to disappoint me, ever. I had yoghurt with granola every morning, as well as egg and bacon, pancakes, a sweet glass of mango smoothie and several cups of coffee – my day is never complete without it.
