Kholle House – Zanzibar, Tanzania

Summary The location is quite central and it’s hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town. The House may be rich in history and color but it needs maintenance. Most rooms are dark and there aren’t enough light. The stairs were uneven and quite steep, if you don’t pay attention you might loose your balance and fall. Outside there is a beautiful garden and a patio. Kholle House was always clean including our room. But the pillow was quite annoying. The shower didn’t work properly, so I was basically sitting in the bad tub taking a shower, very uncomfortable. This situation could have been avoided if they only had checked my room before I checked in. I also specifically said that I will be traveling with a companion and the room was ready for just one person only. The noise from the outside was terrible, I woke up several times during my stay. The sunlight was limited. They didn’t take credit cards. The wifi kept disconnecting in the room and there were no phones there either. Some staff were attentive and some did not listen to me. There were misunderstandings during breakfast which could have been avoided if they paid more attention to what I was saying rather than assuming. This place has a lot of potential. Kholle house could have been one of my favorite boutique hotels because the original building is really beautiful, just as the pictures on this article show it to be. Unfortunately, it is run very poorly.
