Sparkling Resort, Park Weggis
The second hotel I got to stay at in Switzerland was the Sparkling Resort, Park Weggis. The five star hotel which originally opened in 1875 as “Hotel Bellevue”, is located about 30 minutes by car from Lucerne and Zurich. Or 50 minutes away by boat from Lucerne. Over time they decided to renovate and extend the whole resort. A new Sparkling Wellness center with six SPA cottages were built, as well as a health center and a Japanese garden. The first renovation was completed in 2001. A few years later they built ten exclusive “Adara” suites, a florist atelier, an underground parking and a new access road to the hotel.
The Park Weggis is situated right by the Lake Lucerne which gives you an astonishing panoramic and overlooking view of the village, the lake, Mount Rigi and The Alps. A picturesque scenery that looks like as if it’s taken right from a fairytale book. I was completely breath-taken by the location. There were times I felt like a princess living in a castle in a land far far away.
The hotel offers 52 luxurious rooms and suites. The historical rooms are in the main building. However, the “Adara” suites are located in the new building, just a few meters away. It gives you a magnificent overlooking view of the entire entrance of The Park Weggis. If you are following me on Instagram (@thestrawberrybrunette) you already know what I’m talking about.
The Park Weggis has two bars and three restaurants. I got to enjoy a delightful 6 – course dinner in restaurant Sparks the first night I was staying there. I’ll write a separate review about my gastronomic experience. Would you believe me if I said I was in a food coma afterwards? You should’ve seen my snapchat videos.
The hotel has a heated outdoor infinity pool where you can enjoy a swim in a peaceful surrounding. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to take a quick dip during my stay there as I was feeling sick and was battling the flu. But I did get to try the one of the six SPA cottages for relaxing two hours. I’ll tell you more about my SPA experience in a separate post. Various massages can be enjoyed in the cottages. A sauna, a sun bed and a steam bath can also be found there too. Fitness facilities and a fancy library are available as well at the Park Weggis.
ADARA DELUXE JUNIOR SUITE
WITH AN ASTONISHING PANORAMIC VIEW
Before I was shown to my room I was sitting in the SPA area trying to make my appointments fit to my hectic schedule. When we finally sorted it out I was escorted to the new part of the building where the Adara suites are located. I didn’t know which rooms I would get, but looking at the signboards and the interior design in the hallway made me feel excited. While waiting inside the elevator to get to the second floor, a million thoughts and feelings were rushing into my head. I always get these moments whenever I’m about to get introduced to my temporarily home. Even though I have traveled so many times before, every hotel I visit is unique in its own way. Even the rooms – they keep surprising me.
So there we were, standing in front of a door with a number that said 243. This is it, I thought. The door opened, the first thing I noticed was the view. Oh, the astonishing panoramic view of the landscape. How can it be so beautiful? I am one lucky girl who gets to wake up to this picturesque village two mornings in a row.
The room was as big as 65m². Furnished with a queen sized bed, sofa, working desk, flat-screen TV, minibar, wine cupboard with exclusive wines and parquet floors. It’s big enough to be an apartment, the only thing missing was a kitchen. But who needs that here when you can just walk a few meters to the main building and have your meals cooked for you.
Other facilities that can be found in the room was a fancy phone with Avaya Guest Media Hub – which looks like an iPad. A Bose stereo I used diligently every morning and every night. As well as a Nespresso coffee machine, water boiler with tea and coffee making facilities. I had my own walk-in closet, safe and separate bathroom with amenities from Bulgari Red Tea. The bathroom had a rain shower, a toilet and a bathtub. Best of all it was made of dark deep green marble. I was on cloud nine.
I usually notice when the hotel has something unique to offer and one of them was wherever I went in the property I was always connected to the wireless LAN. Except when I was in the SPA cottage. Another thing which made an impression on me was whenever I was out to dine or to get a massage, my room was always clean. But there’s one thing the staff kept doing which I cannot forget. They kept leaving these cards of inspirational quotes nicely placed on my bed or on my night table. They made me think, they made me reflect, they made me wiser, they simply made me smile.
Sometimes when you travel alone, you need signs. Whether or not you’re doing the right thing, or if you are in the right path, or you’re just trying to find some answers. Sometimes all you need is just one sentence to get things into perspective or for things to make sense. Thank you Park Weggis for having me and for the wonderful weekend. You made a soul very happy. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. It surely brought back so many feelings and memories.
