EXTRAORDINARY AND STYLISH HOTEL WITH A UNIQUE ARCHITECTURE AND EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE.
P.S. IT’S A PERFECT PLACE FOR MARBLE LOVERS.
My boyfriend and I went on a weekend get away to Ireland about two weeks ago. We had the privilege to spend two lovely nights in one of the Leading Hotels of the World, the Marker - an extraordinary and luxurious five star hotel with a unique architecture located in the heart of Dublin, right by the Grand Canal Square.
Upon arrival Christian and I were warmly welcomed by the sweetest receptionist, Tessa. She was being very helpful and helped us check in and even change our reservation at the hotels restaurant, Le Drunch an hour and a half earlier than planned. I must admit I was so mesmerized by her beautiful Irish speaking accent.
While waiting for our keycards to be activated, the Front Desk Manager, Unni greeted me by my name before I had the chance to introduce myself, making me feel like I had been welcomed home by a good old friend. Unni, was so kind to give us a quick tour to our room and shared some great advice on what to do and where to eat in Dublin.
After Christian and I unpacked we went down to enjoy a 3-course dinner at the Le Drunch. We enjoyed the incredible food and excellent service given by our servant, Elena that we totally lost track of time and sat there for 3 hours! We started off with a (the Marker) Bloody Mary - Christian loved it, I on the other hand think it was too spicy to my taste, it could've been a little bit milder. We had fried calamari and tiger prawns as starters, both very delicious but the latter was definitely my favorite. As main course we had Fish of the day and something called John Stone Butchers Secret (Truffle Mash, Garlic Mushroom, Peppercorn Sauce Horseradish Yorkshire Pudding). For dessert I had Crème Brulee and Christian had a Passion Fruit Mojito Fruit Salad.
Enough about that, lets talk hotel and facilities. The Marker hotel has 187 rooms all together. It also features a ground floor cocktail bar and a brasserie where they serve yummy breakfast every morning. The hotel has a spa area with four treatment rooms, a fitness center, a steam room and a swimming pool. They also have a Rooftop bar which is open when weather conditions are good.
The Marker is only a 20 minute walk away by foot from Central Dublin - there you can find many pubs and restaurant with traditional Irish music and dance, theaters, nightlife and a wide variety of shops such as Forever21, Topshop and RiverIsland just to name a few.
Deluxe Room with a marblelous bathroom!
We had a lovely Deluxe Room all to ourselves overlooking the view of the Grand Canal Square and the business quarter. All rooms are air conditioned and has free access to Wi-Fi.
The room is 35 m² featuring a very comfortable king sized bed with a lovely marble night table on each side. There were also two extra pillows in the closet that we could use if we wanted to try a different type of pillow the second day - however, we didn't even bother to try them as we were already happy with the ones we had from before.
The room also features a minibar + tea and coffee making facilities, a working desk with Philippe Starck Flos D’E lamp with iPod charger (suitable for iPhone 4/4S), a flat-screen TV, a sitting area and a spacious separate bathroom made of marble(!) with a rainforest shower and a bathtub.
There were two things that surprised me in this Deluxe Room; one, the shampoo they had in the bathroom. I have a feeling that most hotels chooses a scented soap, shower gel or shampoo that smells like lemon or lime, which I'm not so very fond of - but the Marker had the best shampoo yet to date. They had a mint scented shampoo! Gosh, it was smelling so good. And two, the room service was excellent. We ordered butter chicken the first night and a burger on the second. Both were so delicious and tasty, except for one tiny thing that my tastebuds did not like - the homemade mango chutney which was served with the butter chicken. I liked it just plain with rice.
Upon check out right before leaving for the airport to head back home dearest Unni told us to wait in the lobby. Little did we know that he called Zoltan, the hotels private chauffeur and surprised us with a ride with their brand new BMW car - I think we can all agree that this was absolutely an awesome way to end the journey at the Marker hotel.
I do hope that Unni, Tessa, Elena, Zoltan, Ailís and the rest of the crew will read this blog post - thank you very much for taking really good care of us and for making us feel home away from home!
