THE FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY LUXURY ISLAND RESORT IN CORON
A few weeks ago my cousin Tess and I flew down to Palawan to explore the beautiful Two Seasons Coron Island Resort & Spa – a 5-star eco-friendly hotel just a 45 minute boat ride from Coron Town.
We landed safely on a Wednesday morning in Busuanga airport. It didn’t take more than a few minutes before our suitcases arrived as the airport was quite small. A smiling airport representative from the resort was standing in the arrival area with a signboard that said Two Seasons. The second he spotted us he immediately introduced himself as Bon and insisted on helping us with our belongings. He led us the way to a van where another airport representative was waiting for us, his name was Joseph, he was our chauffeur for the next half hour. As Tess and I sat down in the van Joseph came with two bottles of cold mineral water.
As we drove from the airport to the private port I eagerly started asking Bon about the resort, all the answers I got left me feeling more excited than I already was. As if I had a stomach full of butterflies, pure bliss. After 35 minutes of driving we finally arrived at the port where a private speed boat was waiting for us by the dock. It was going to take us from Coron Town to the Two Seasons Coron Island Resort & Spa.
I remember I was having many mixed feelings and thoughts about my boat ride. Sitting on that speed boat while feeling the fresh air blowing through my hair made me think about my dad. As I mentioned before my dad used to own a boat company. So everything that has to do with the sea makes me somehow connected to him. It makes me feel like he is with me wherever I go. After clearing my mind and enjoying our ride we finally arrived to paradise! The water was so crystal clear – you can see all the fishes and other weird sea creatures swimming peacefully with one another. What a place! It needs to be experienced by your own eyes.
We were warmly welcomed by Liza in the reception area upon arrival. Tess and I were given a necklace each made by shells followed by some refreshments as well as churros. Yummy! Since our room was still occupied they had us checked in in a cute Beach Bungalow so we could relax and have a place to stay while waiting. I was too eager to get to know the place so the second I left my belongings in the Bungalow I went straight out and explored the island.
The luxurious Island Resort has 42 Bungalows all together located in different places on the island.
The resort has a fitness center where guests can enjoy a morning workout with a lovely view of the island. If you want to get yourself pampered Narra Spa offers an extensive menu of exquisite Asian, Polynesian, and Contemporary Cosmopolitan therapeutic body treatments. A children’s playroom is located not so far away but it’s still under construction, however there’s a game room under the same roof as the Bahura Bar where you can challenge your loved one on a round of billiards or enjoy a refreshing drink or a light snack. I have to recommend three drinks you have to try out, you can order it at the bar or in the restaurant; a coconut shake, a pineapple shake and a calamansi shake! A perfect way to cool down on a super warm day. These drinks were actually my savior during the day I was very ill.
Two Seasons features a restaurant called Sulu which offers a spread of local and international dishes – here’s where they serve breakfast every morning. It also features an Aqua Sports Center, conference room, karaoke room, a library, a 600 sqm adult and kiddie pool, two beautiful beaches (sunrise and sunset beaches), hiking trail, computer stations and free wireless Internet access in selected areas. I must say that the Wi-Fi was really slow on the island, it kept disconnecting during the day. For some reason I had a better connection during the evening. You can also borrow a pocket Wi-Fi which you can use in your room, but I’m warning you the signal won’t get any better. In a way I think it’s a good thing I didn’t have a proper access to the internet and the outside world. It made me focus more on myself and the trip. In case you want a small remembrance from your vacation, there’s this cute souvenir shop called Lo Boutique which is located close to the front desk area – there you can buy everything from clothes to small keychains.
SANDBAR BUNGALOW – THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND ON THE ISLAND
There are six different kinds of Bungalow at Two Seasons. You have the Mountain Bungalows, Seaview Bungalows, Hilltop Bungalows which are perfect for a small family or group of friends. Then you have the Beach Bungalows located on the beachfront or beach/poolside, the Island Tip Bungalows and The Sandbar Bungalow which is the only one of its kind on the island. This is where Tess and I lived during our stay.
All units are air-conditioned and equipped with a private balcony, sofa seating area and a flat-screen cable TV. As part of their initiative to be a 100% self-sustaining and environment-friendly resort, solar-powered water heaters are installed in each of their bungalow accommodations.
The Sandbar Bungalow is located on the pointed tip of the island where the beautiful sandbar is connected to an islet. East and west views of the breathtaking ocean and its surroundings is the highlight of this unique Bungalow.
The room is furnished with a king-sized bed with an elegant wood headboard. From the bedside there’s a sliding door which opens to a verandah with an outdoor jacuzzi built and blended with the natural rocks from the island. It was in this area I had my last breakfast on the resort. From the room lounge sofa there’s another sliding door which opens to a verandah facing sunrise where a few steps away is the sandbar.
The room is equipped with a BOSE ultimate VideoWave entertainment system, a flat-screen TV with a unique view in the background. A seating area, a complimentary mini-bar and a tea/coffee making facilities. As well as a separate bathroom with a 400mm jumbo rain shower, bathrobes, and bath toiletries by L’Occitane! The breathtaking view of the ocean and it’s surroundings are the highlights of this unique bungalow.
Thank you Two Seasons for having us! I had a wonderful time at Two Seasons even though I was sick during my stay. I had to waste a whole day sleeping which I think was a pity, but health always comes first. Dencliff, Matthew and Wilmar – are three of many hotel staff on the island who took really good care of me and Tess and always made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Two Seasons for the unique experience. I personally think this place is perfect for a romantic weekend trip for two. It could also be a perfect a family trip as there are a lot of fun water activities for the whole family.
