Zannos Melathron hotel, Santorini – Greece

During our last three days in Santorini my best friend and I had the privilege of staying at the Zannos Melathron hotel which is located in the heart of Pyrgos – one of the oldest villages in Santorini. The International airport and the city centre where you can find all sorts of souvenir shops, bars and restaurants is only a 10 minute drive away.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a smiling bellboy who helped us with our luggage and led the way to a big blue gate with a golden sign to a gigantic Greek mansion.

Zannos Melathron hotel has 13 rooms and suites all together featuring a swimming pool, a wellness spa, a restaurant and a cellar with a big variety of wines.

A la carte breakfast is served every morning in the hotels restaurant with a spectacular view of the island. You can even see Imerovigli and Oia with the naked eye.

We were welcomed with a glass of the hotels own signature wine by the manager followed by a tour around the hotel. He also showed us to our junior suite. The hotel is lovely in itself, but I must admit I was disappointed with the housekeeping services during our stay. I politely asked them to change the bedsheets but all they did was to make the bed, without changing the sheets.

Upon check out I got disappointed for the second time. I hope this was only a one time experience due to end of season, if not I hope Zannos could take guests more seriously in the future. We had scheduled an airport transportation with the hotels own private car months beforehand, but for some reason it didn’t show up. There was no one in the reception to assist me, only a bellboy who didn’t know anything about the transfer but kindly ordered a taxi.

MARULIA – THE JUNIOR SUITE

We were staying in an air conditioned junior suite featuring a king size bed, a flatscreen TV, sofa, iPhone 5/6 docking station and a separate bathroom with a bathtub.

Unfortunately, our suite could not connect to the villa’s free Wi-Fi due to its location, so we had to sit in the lobby or in the restaurant area to connect to the internet wirelessly. We also had our own private jacuzzi outside in the second floor. Since the hotel was closing for the season, we couldn’t use it.
